PLANNED GIVING

Since 2001, Unite Oregon has worked to advance sound racial justice and economic justice policies and programs to ensure Oregon continues to be a welcoming and equitable state. It requires vigilance, persistence, and dedication to make sure that the hard-fought progress we’ve made will endure and regress in the future.

Leaving a legacy gift by including Unite Oregon in your will or estate plans honors your commitment to protecting Oregon’s future as well as providing savings on capital gains taxes and estate taxes. To ensure that your estate plans meet your long-term income and family needs, be sure to consult with your attorney or financial advisor.

If you decide to include Unite Oregon in your estate plans, please let us know. We value the opportunity to express our gratitude in person and would like to invite you to join our Social Justice Champions.

Unite Oregon Social Justice Champions

Unite Oregon is pleased to recognize those who are supporting the future well-being of UO and social justice through their estate plans. After informing us of your plans, UO will extend an invitation to join our Social Justice Champions. As a Social Justice Champion member, you are invited to special events and activities and will be acknowledged in UO publications such as monthly newsletters and annual reports.

Naming Unite Oregon in Your Will

Your will affirms, honors, and protects what matters most to you. Through a specific bequest, you can name a particular dollar amount, or through a residuary bequest, you can give all or part of what is remaining after payment of debts, expenses, and specific bequests. If you would like to make such a gift to UO, your attorney may wish to include language similar to the following:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Unite Oregon at 1390 SE 122nd Ave Portland, OR 97233, a gift of ($_____ or _____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate), to be used for its general purposes.”

More Ways to Give

You might also consider naming Unite Oregon as a beneficiary in your retirement plan, insurance policy, or bank and investment accounts. Depending on the plan, UO can be named as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary. You will need the following information:

Legal Name: Center for Intercultural Organizing, DBA Unite Oregon

Address: 1390 SE 122nd Ave Portland, OR 97233

Employer Identification Number (EIN): 74-3098100

Use your IRA to give back

If you’re over the age of 70 1/2, the IRS may require you to take annual distributions (withdrawals) from your retirement accounts, such as your IRA —a provision known as the required minimum distribution (RMD).

Up to a certain amount, these distributions may be made tax-free when directed to a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, such as Unite Oregon.

Charitable IRA distributions have several tax benefits, some not readily apparent. Talk to your tax professional or legal advisor about using your RMD to make a charitable gift. And thank you!
