Seeking Candidates for the PILOT 2024 Cohort
For the last 15 years, Unite Oregon has organized our Pan-Immigrant Leadership and Organizing Training (PILOT) program to address the challenges faced by emerging immigrant and refugee leaders and groups through leadership and skill-building events. In our in-person program, participants expand their leadership skills through community organizing, civic engagement and political education sessions.
The program focuses on relationship building among participants. They will engage in reflection-based workshops that will facilitate an environment where people learn about each other’s experiences and what has brought them to this line of work. It focuses on the importance of community mapping and economic prosperity, as well as the importance of relations in the context of community organizing and leadership as the foundation for political education, local government and grassroots campaigns.
Another important aspect of the program is exploring community-based leadership through a workshop that will feature a local community leader. Participants will reflect on what it means to be a leader in their community and will discuss both negative and positive characteristics of leaders they have worked with. Participants will have the chance to learn about public testimony and its purpose in community organizing work, and then will practice it in a small group setting. Voting is also a central theme in this program, and participants will discuss local voting changes coming to the city and how people can be involved in the process regardless of status.
Aspiring candidates seeking details about the program can reach out to our Multnomah County Manager, Vania Lucio, who will schedule an information session.
